Mini Carolinas Conference: Engineering Outreach

On October 18th, over 200 students from several local high schools attended and competed in the Fall Semester’s Mini Carolinas Conference (MC²) at UNC Charlotte. This exciting event is designed as a smaller-scale version of the Carolinas Conference, providing high school students with a unique opportunity to engage with engineering disciplines through hands-on competitions and collaborative challenges.

MC² featured competitions across several fields of engineering offered at the William States Lee College of Engineering, including geotechnical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy, and a quiz-based tour event. High school students showcased their talents in events ranging from wind turbine design to retaining wall construction, highlighting their creativity and problem-solving skills. In addition, students had the opportunity to tour the Kulwicki Motorsports Lab while on campus.

The students competed in teams of five or six across the various competitions. The top three performing teams were recognized after competition day and awarded with certificates for their outstanding achievements.

This event was made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of Kelly Anderson, Macy Dillard, ASCE leadership, over 100 student volunteers, and faculty volunteers. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this extraordinary event a success and providing a memorable experience for our local high school students!
