2024 Airport Engineering Seminar

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering proudly hosted the 2024 Airport Engineering Seminar on October 7-8 at the Sullenberger Aviation Museum. This seminar is made possible by our great partnerships with the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, the Sullenberger Aviation Museum, and the Charlotte Aviation Innovation and Research (AIR) Institute. The seminar brought together industry, government, and academic experts to network and explore topics ranging from concrete pavements to state DOT updates.

The event featured seven informative sessions covering a wide range of topics, including an airline industry update, Federal Aviation Administration Headquarters and Technology Center updates, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) applications in the airport engineering environment, small/medium hub airport opportunities and challenges, topics in airport concrete, North Carolina / South Carolina Department of Transportation updates, and Charlotte AIR Institute and partner updates. Attendees also had the opportunity to tour CLT Airport’s ongoing renovation projects, providing a closer look at the airport’s future. This year’s seminar was held at the newly updated Sullenberger Aviation Museum. Located near the runways of CLT Airport, this allowed attendees to view many historical aircrafts including the famous jet from US Airways flight 1549 known as, “The Miracle on the Hudson”. Over 150 engineers, architects, and professionals with an interest in aviation attended the two-day event.
