Welcoming Robert Kline to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department

The Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department at UNC Charlotte is excited to welcome Robert Kline, Bob, as the newest addition to our team. Bob joins us with a wealth of technical knowledge and extensive field experience.
Bob’s journey to the CEE Department began with a chance encounter while picking up surplus items. After meeting with David Biela and touring the High Bay lab, Bob was intrigued by the impressive scope and scale of the research projects taking place. “This is a very unique area on campus,” he shared. “The testing going on here fascinated me. After seeing the other labs and their projects, I thought it would be a fun new challenge to join the team and put some of the talents I had acquired from my previous career to work here — and hopefully benefit the next generation.”
Before joining UNC Charlotte, Bob spent 37 years with Canon Corporation as a Senior Field Service Engineer in the production printing division. He managed high-volume accounts producing over 30 million pages monthly, maintained complex printing systems, trained operators, and ensured rigorous safety and maintenance protocols were followed. These experiences equipped him with strong time management, electro-mechanical expertise, and a commitment to safe and efficient operations — all of which will be invaluable in his new role managing research operations, lab safety, and equipment maintenance for the department.
Please join us in welcoming Robert Kline to the CEE family!
